The great speech I choses to learn about was the great I Have a Dream speech. The reason I chose this speech was to learn more about the speech and the holiday just pasted. In school we used to talk light about the speech so I wanted to know why everyone always remembers it. I think this is recognized number one in the top hundred speeches because of the things that was happening before and after the speech was given. After the speech he put the importance of civil rights to the top on the agenda and then later on passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The rhetorical purpose of the speech was to inspire and persuade people to right for what's right. The specific purpose was for African American people and other people to right as one to make a change for everyone to be equal. I think what made this speech so effective was that they marched before and how he gives the speech. He talks slow and clear with a passion in his voice that makes you want to get up and make a difference. An example of this is when he says "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character". When he says it he adds emotion and pulls an example from his own life to convince the people to make a change. Another example is "I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood". This is effective because he uses what happened in the past to say it's okay as long as we work on it and show that we are all equal. I learned to talk with passion because it makes listeners to be more engaged.
